Mother's Day

Jeremy put together a great day of relaxation and quality family time for us this Mother's Day. The day began with me sleeping in (glorious), a yummy breakfast, and some mysterious presents. Siena helped me open them and we were super excited to discover some fun floaties for us to bob around in the ocean on, all the toys necessary to build an awesome sand castle, and a new "beach read" for Mommy. Hurray! After some serious beach time and floating, we headed over to the park for a picnic (Siena had so much fun walking, falling, and rolling around on the grass) and then out for ice cream. It was a fabulous day capped off by some good reminiscing about the fact that this time last year we were staring at an empty crib and wondering what was in store for us. . .and now here we are with Siena turning 1 in less than a month. Where did the time go? Time has shifted into hyper-speed this last year with so much change and all of the new adventures that come along with parenthood. I fear that sometimes I do give in to the exhaustion and stress of trying to balance it all, but Mother's Day was the ideal moment to stop, take stock, and recognize how truly blessed we are. I am a lucky Mommy and when I stop to count my blessings, they are rich and many.

Kealia Trail Hike

We went with friends for a beautiful hike up and over neighboring Mount Ka'ala on a trail known as Kealia Trail a few weeks ago. What we thought would be a short hike turned into five hours, however, and we were all surprised by the workout inherent in trudging up and through a mountain range. The view on the other side was well worth it and the strawberry guava we discovered at intervals along the way was a much welcomed snack and revitalizer. Siena, in her ergobaby carrier, was a real trooper. . .and the best fed and most well-rested of all of us.

My First Hula Show

I have to admit I was very nervous a few weeks ago when I had my first Hula Show at the town center of nearby Mililani. I mean, come on, I am pretty darn white. But all nerves (and super shaky hands) considered, I feel it went pretty well and it was a good warm-up for the upcoming Ho'ike Luau my halau is hosting at the end of this month. Wish me luck! More pics of that to come. . .

Highlights from Paul, Mary & John's Visit

What a wonderful treat it was to have Paul, Mary & John come visit. We logged some amazing beach and play time together and were lucky enough to even have a visit from the Easter bunny. Siena is truly blessed to have such wonderful cousins and an uncle who were so excited to snuggle her and spoil her.

Enjoy the slideshow with highlights from their visit.

Siena's First Steps

We admit to being total slackers with the blog lately but it's time to catch you all up. April was a very big month with visitors from Michigan (Paul, Mary & John), Easter, and yes, Siena took her first true steps. What a month!

Here are some pics of Daddy coaching (and coaxing) Siena. She is such a big girl and every day brings new discoveries. . .and now that she is off and running, we are working hard to keep up.

Play Time Around the House

Bikini Day!

March marked the opening of Hawaii's first Target and we could not resist buying Siena's first bikini and a new fancy SPF sun hat. This of course called for a photo shoot. . .

Flour Day

February and March were filled with rainy days and after several days of non-stop rain prevented us from going to the beach, we were definitely stir crazy. So what to do? Bring the beach inside, of course! We laid a sheet on the floor along with various colanders, spoons, and measuring cups, and poured out the flour. Siena didn't hold back and was happy to make a mess with her "sand" and bake us a very slobbery cake.

Help Yourself

Tired of waiting on Mommy and Daddy to make her food, Siena decides to just help herself.

January was a busy month but we still managed to get out to the beach to explore the water and enjoy a few sunsets. Here are some random highlights.

Magic Island Biathlon

This morning was our first team biathlon and we are exhausted! Jeremy started us off with a 2.5 mile run and then tagged me in for a 1k swim. Jeremy finished his leg with an impressive time of 19:40 and I completed the swim in 27:30. Truth be told, I was a bit disappointed by my final time since I swam the same course a few days earlier in 24 minutes but I feel proud nonetheless. Our friends Bridget & Roy and Christine & Stacey competed as well, each team finishing under the time limit and with grins on their faces. It was a successful day and we are now all looking forward to the next biathlon in the series, the Valentines Day Biathlon. We plan on doing a little bit more training this month and improving on our previous times. . .we'll see what we can do!

Biggest Moon of the Year

Yesterday we were treated to the biggest moon of the year (I know, there are so many jokes to be made) and it was spectacular. The combination of the bright face of the moon reflecting off of the water and the dramatic silhouettes created by the palm trees, coastline, and reef made for an amazing sight. Mother Nature certainly is an artist.
